RUDISILL SCORES FIRST CAREER WIN, DEWEASE SETS NEW TRACK RECORD IN LINCOLN TWIN 20'S
(Click on headline link above for full story and results)
Mario Page wins first SpeedSTR race ever held in Pigeon Hills;
Kyle Martin becomes the night’s second first-career winner in Thundercars
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 8/28/10 - John Rudisill thrilled the crowd by holding off Danny Dietrich and Brian Montieth for his first career win, and Lance Dewease pulled the slider to pass Aaron Ott with the white flag waving to set a new track record in the Twin 20's for "410" sprint cars at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night.
There was no shortage of action in either feature event.
Though the Rudisill Trucking & Excavating/Caskey Printing/Rife’s Racing Collectibles #4 started on the pole and led every lap of the first 20-lap feature, two red flags, including one on the 19th-lap, kept a competitive field close throughout.
The first red flag came out for a front stretch flip involving Mark Smith and Kevin Nagy, who got together while racing for fifth. Both drivers were uninjured, but done for the night.
The second red flag came out in turn two of lap 19, when Brent Marks caught the back side of Brad McClelland while racing for second, slid up the race track, and collected the #51 of Fred Rahmer, who tipped onto his side. In this case, both drivers were able to continue (Rahmer with a damaged top wing), but the red put McClelland, 20th-starting Brian Montieth, and 17th-starting Danny Dietrich on Rudisill’s tail for the final restart.
The mad two-lap dash to the finish saw both Montieth and Dietrich get by McClelland on lap 19 and Dietrich pass Montieth for the runner-up spot on the final lap.
But through it all, Rudisill ran a flawless race to cross .69 seconds ahead of Dietrich, with Montieth, McClelland, and tenth-starting Johnny Mackison, Jr. completing the top five. Sixth through tenth were 16th-starting Lance Dewease, Tim Glatfelter, 23rd-starting Aaron Ott, 15th-starting Josh Wells, and 21st-starting Brian Leppo.
"I was loose, and I was hanging on for dear life," said a jubilant Rudisill in victory lane, "I tried to get it up on the curb and run it up there...either ballpark it or bring it into victory lane!"
"We bought this car from Daryn Pittman," added Rudisill, "It was an old Titan car from the World of Outlaws."
"My goal was just to get a win at Williams Grove or Lincoln," continued Rudisill, "It’s amazing how much support we get from the fans. Without them, we wouldn’t be here."
Rudisill’s selection of the number "8" pill for the inversion put Aaron Ott on the pole and Lance Dewease on the inside of row two for the second 20-lapper.
Ott, who actually got undressed and thought he was done for the night after a crash in his qualifying event, led the first 18 laps before Dewease pulled the "flyer" in turns three and four as the pair came down to take the white flag.
Dewease led the final two laps to pick up his third win of the year and 35th of his career in the Pigeon Hills, establishing a 20-lap track record of 5:37.346 and crossing .88 seconds ahead of Ott.
"We’re set up for late in races and these 20-lappers are not that long of a race for us," said Dewease after exiting his Advanced Development Services Don Owens #30C, "But we got rolling in the middle there in one and two at the end, and got runs on Aaron. We kept giving him a slider but I kept giving him room, and finally he came down a little going into three, so we could get by him there."
Brian Montieth, Danny Dietrich, and Brent Marks completed the top five. Sixth through tenth were 14th-starting Alan Krimes, Michael Carber, McClelland, Tim Glatfelter, and Mackison.
Heats for the 23 "410" sprinters were won by Rudisill, Pat Cooper, and Kevin Nagy.

MONTIETH EDGES DEWEASE IN LINCOLN 58TH ANNIVERSARY THRILLER
(Click on headline link above for full story and results)
Boland drives away from field in "358" sprint car feature
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 8/21/10 - Brian Montieth has made a habit of winning 410 sprint car thrillers. But his win in Saturday night’s John Gleim, Jr. Excavating Night 58th Anniversary show at Lincoln Speedway might have been his most thrilling of all.
In spectacular fashion, Montieth watched 14th-starting Lance Dewease pull a slider to briefly take the race lead in the final turns, then out-muscled the Fayetteville star off turn four to win the race to the checkered.
"Lance has been tough here when it gets dry and slick," said Montieth in victory lane, "I knew he was going to take a shot and I was just hoping I could get enough run to come down the hill and get in front of him."
Montieth’s third Lincoln win of the year, his second of the weekend (Friday night at Williams Grove)a, was worth $5,800 for the special 30-lap event.
At first, it looked like Stevie Smith would be the man to beat. He started on the pole and led the first 15 laps before second-starting Montieth went to the "edge" to catch him in lapped traffic on turns three and four of lap 16. Montieth then began pulling away from the field, and had a lead of more than three seconds over Smith with five laps to go.
"Unfortunately, when you’re in traffic, second is where you want to be," said Montieth, "Stevie tried to do what he had to do to try to pass through lapped traffic. But when you run second, you can take the line the leader doesn’t."
Meanwhile, Dewease was mounting his charge to the front, passing Smith for the runner-up spot with one lap to go.
While heading into turn three for the final turns to the checkered, leader Montieth clipped the slower car of Gerard McIntyre, Jr., sending McIntyre spinning and forcing Montieth into a one-lap dash to the checkered.
"Ah...lapped traffic here is really tough on us," said Montieth, "It’s so slick and there’s no too much of a bottom groove to keep momentum up, so it was just one of those deals."
McIntyre came to a stop after his spin and collected the fourth and fifth-place cars of Greg Hodnett and Daryn Pittman respectively. Pittman suffered an injury to his right arm, and transported himself to a Harrisburg hospital for treatment.
When the final lap began, Dewease stayed on Montieth’s bumper up the back stretch and slid up in front of the Premier Auto Works/Auto Locator #21 through turns three and four. But Montieth prevailed down the home stretch to pick up the lucrative win, the 19th of his Lincoln career.
Dewease settled for a close second, with Smith crossing third and Alan Krimes and Tyler Walker completing the top five. Sixth through tenth were 23rd-starting Johnny Mackison, Jr., Aaron Ott, Justin Henderson, Fred Rahmer, and Brent Marks.

BRENT MARKS WIRES FIELD FOR SECOND CAREER WIN
(Click on headline link above for full story & results)
Curt Michael Wins 43rd career URC Feature
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 8/14/10 - Brent Marks used the luck of the draw and a fast race car to drive to his second career 25-lap 410 Sprint car feature win Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway.
The young Myerstown racer drew the pole position for the feature and kept the top guns at bay, leading all 25 laps of the feature.
"It's about time I got to start up front," said Marks, who pilots a family owned No. 19M sprinter. "I've had no luck at starting up front but tonight we did and had a good run. We stuck to our normal game and it worked out great for us tonight."
Cory Haas challenged Marks in heavy traffic during the first half of the feature as Brian Montieth started 12th and was marching his way to the front.
Montieth moved into the top five on lap 10 and had just got around Brian Leppo for fourth when he ran into the rear of a lapped car and spun in turn one to bring out the caution flag.
Marks continued to set the pace with Haas a close second.
Haas good run ended on lap 14 when he spun out in turn two. Leppo challenged Marks for a couple of laps before Mark Smith got around him for the runner up spot on lap 20.
Marks had checked out from the field when Smith took second place and easily scored the win, his first of the season. Marks ability to work through heavy traffic aided in his $3,000 payday.
"That’s one of the reasons why we chose Lincoln as our home track is because I’ve always felt comfortable in lapped traffic in all of the other divisions that I’ve raced," Marks stated. "Once I got used to this car and the speed, it’s a lot easier to get through the traffic here. The car sticks that I don’t have to worry about crashing it."
Drivers received 100 show up points only for the night due to several Lincoln regulars competing at the Knoxville Nationals and Marks would have benefitted had the race been a points show.
"I really needed this to be a points race tonight, especially with Brian’s bad luck," he said.
We need to catch him and tonight would have helped. But well have to keep after it the rest of the season. Marks will have three more points shows to make his bid for his first career title.
Mark Smith was second over Alan Krimes, Brian Leppo and 16th starting Jim Siegel with Danny Dietrich, Brad McClelland, Montieth, Michael Carber and Gerard McIntyre, Jr. completing the top 10 finishers.

SHAFFER WINS LINCOLN’S WORLD ENERGY SYSTEMS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
(Click on headline link above for full story and results)
Brian Walker claims first-ever PSS 305 sprint car feature win; Slaybaugh takes thundercar thriller
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 8/7/10 - There were only two caution flags in Saturday’s World Energy Systems World Championship for 358 Sprint Cars.
But the second and final one had everything to do with the outcome of the race.
And in the end, it was Hallam’s Adrian Shaffer taking advantage of Dale Hammaker’s horrible luck and pulling into victory lane to accept the $5,500 top prize.
The night didn’t start well for Shaffer, who missed his turn in time trials and was forced to start seventh in his qualifying event. He advanced to a qualifying spot in his heat, and by virtue of his fastest time in his heat group, was one of the ten drivers to redraw for starting spots at the front of the World Championship field.
Shaffer drew a #5 pill for the start, and actually went backwards in the early going, scored sixth as late as lap 13. He moved back into the top five by passing Brad McClelland on lap 14.
And that’s about the time that things started getting crazy.
Lincoln points leader and polesitter Dale Hammaker dominated the early stages of the race until hitting lapped traffic at the same time Shaffer was moving into fifth. Fourth-starting Jeff Rohrbaugh, driving Mike Bittinger’s #12, moved past front row starter Nate Snyder on lap five and began closing on Hammaker when the leader reached the lapped traffic. Hammaker’s 3.44-second lead on lap nine dwindled to .53 seconds on lap 15. For the next five laps, Hammaker and Rohrbaugh raced side-by-side behind lapped traffic.
That’s when disaster struck for Hammaker, whose steering wheel fell off. The veteran driver known as "the Godfather" of the 358 sprints controlled his spin on the backstretch, but handed the lead to Rohrbaugh. It was the second time in two years (including last year at Trail-Way) that Hammaker lost a steering wheel while leading. Hammaker put the steering wheel back on the car and rejoined the field. We was 20th at the finish.
But Rohrbaugh’s luck wasn’t much better. Although was the new leader, he had a right rear tire going flat, and could only keep the lead for two laps.
Shaffer dove under Rohrbaugh in the first and second turns of lap 22 and took off like he was shot out of a cannon to grab the race lead.
Over the final laps, Shaffer continued to pull away and took the checkered by a huge 5.36-seconds over Selinsgrove invader Nate Snyder.

DEWEASE COMES ON LATE FOR LINCOLN STERNER MEMORIAL WIN
(Click on headline link above for the full story and results)
Chris Arnold wins career first 358 Sprint feature; Sam Gallagher wins second in thundercars
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 7/31/10 - Lance Dewease continued his summer surge Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway. Dewease came on strong during the late stages of the 30-lap Weldon Sterner Memorial, using a lap 24 restart to his advantage and then drove to his 34th career win in the Pigeon Hills.
Dewease, of Fayetteville has had a great two weeks of racing with two World of Outlaws wins and now capturing the $4,000 top prize for his first career Sterner Memorial win.
"Weldon Sterner changed the layout of this track and was a long time car owner as well, and that shows his love for the sport," said the Fayetteville driver. "It’s a privilege to win a race in his honor."
Dewease lined up sixth in the 24-car field as front row starter Alan Krimes drove off from the field during the early laps.
Krimes’ big lead was wiped out on lap 11 when Michael Carber brought out a caution.
Krimes once again drove off from the field following the restart as Dewease ran a distant second as they worked their way through heavy traffic.
Doug Dodson flipped on the 20th lap and collected Cory Haas to bring out a red flag.
Krimes once again maintained the lead on the restart but this time Dewease stayed with the young Denver driver until a lap 24 yellow for two-time defending track champion Brian Montieth, who spun in turn two.
On the restart, Dewease got a good run on Krimes and slid up in front of him exiting the second corner to grab the top spot as Daryn Pittman followed him into the runner-up spot.
"Alan’s been really good this year and we’ve been pretty good here lately too," said the winner. "We didn’t get a good start and with Alan off the front row and all the lapped cars, we just had to be patient and wait for the race track to come to us. We made some changes under that red flag and it just came to life. I couldn’t have asked for a better race car."
Despite a lap 27 yellow for Danny Dietrich, whose top five run came to an end when he stopped in turn two, Dewease went unchallenged to the win, his second win of the season.
"We’ve been really good the last two weeks and I finally got that first win I’ve wanted to Lernerville and then what can you say about last Friday at Williams Grove," he said. "We love to beat those guys (World of Outlaws). My guys just have this car working real good right now."
Pittman, Krimes, Brent Marks, who started 13th, Adam Wilt, Fred Rahmer, Brian Leppo, 17th starting Johnny Mackison, Jr., Aaron Ott and Jim Siegel completed the top 10 finishers.
Heats for the 31 "410" Sprints were won by Aaron Ott, Johnny Mackison, Jr., Keith Kauffman and Kyle Pruitt. Bill Stine won the consolation.
Jim Siegel paced time trials with a lap of 13.438 seconds, earning a $300 bonus.
Dillsburg driver Chris Arnold gave himself a great 26th birthday gift by winning his first career 20-lap 358 Sprint car feature.

THUNDERSTORMS WIPE OUT PREMIER AUTO WORKS/AUTO LOCATOR NIGHT AT LINCOLN SPEEDWAY
A strong line of mid-afternoon thunderstorms that included tornado watches and a tornado warning as close as northern York County forced promoters to cancel Sunday's Premier Auto Works/Auto Locator Night at Lincoln Speedway.
With a thunderstorm warning in effect 8:00 p.m., promoters Bob and Don Leiby and Alan Kretizer decided to cancel the show. The fact that it was a Sunday show also factored into the decision.
The program was to feature the 410 sprints cars, thundercars, and SpeedSTRs. Promoters will meet with Premier Auto Works before announcing a new date for that sponsored night. They will also look at other potential dates to host the SpeedSTRs.
Next Saturday night, July 31st, at 7:30 PM, Lincoln Speedway run the postponed 7th Annual Weldon Sterner Memorial featuring the Lawrence Chevrolet 410 Sprints,. The Keizer Aluminum Wheels 358 Sprints and Thundercars will round out the evening’s racing action. Gates will open at 5:30 PM.
