STEVIE SMITH SCORES SECOND CAREER KENNY WELD MEMORIAL WIN
(Click on headline link above for full story and results)
Watson reclaims thundercar track title from Sam Gallagher with seventh victory of 2009

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 10/10/09 - Stevie Smith capped off a sensational season by dominating the 13th Annual Kenny Weld Memorial at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night.

The New Oxford native now residing in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma grabbed the lead from his outside front row starting spot and led every lap of the non-stop 40-lap event, crossing 6.5 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Lincoln had been about the only place Smith had run but not won in 2009. Adding lap money and prize money from qualifying events, Smith’s 23rd career win in the Pigeon Hills was worth $6,925.

"This is what I wanted to end up the year with," said Smith upon exiting the Zemitis/Zemco Headers #1 in victory lane, "I thought it was a really good year, I was really proud of these guys, and I wanted to end up with a win. This is our last race for the year and it’s good to go into the winter with."

Although Smith entered lapped traffic on lap nine and drove away from the rest of the field, there was thrilling wheel-to-wheel action in behind. Once fifth-starting Brian Leppo got around fourth-starting Greg Hodnett for third on lap 14, Leppo and polesitter Jim Siegel battled for the runner-up spot the rest of the way. The two passed each other several times for second in heavy lapped traffic through the middle stages of the race. Siegel was scored second through lap 21, Leppo was the runner-up from laps 22 through 31, Siegel reclaimed second for laps 33 through 39, and Leppo edged Siegel for second at the wire.

Hodnett and eighth-starting Cory Haas raced for position over the second half of the race and crossed fourth and fifth, respectively. Fred Rahmer won the D&D Septic hard-charger award for coming from 18th starting spot to finish sixth, with fast timer Mark Smith, Lance Dewease, Alan Krimes, and Chad Layton completing the top ten.

Johnny Mackison, Jr., the only car which dropped out of the feature, received the $100 hard luck award from D&D Septic. Josh Wells, who finished 12th, received a $500 bonus for being the first car across the finish line using Weld Tech cylinder heads.

For the first time in recent memory, it was a caution-less night, with all 410 sprint car events (time trials, heats, B-Main, and Weld Memorial event) all going non-stop.

Sprint heats were won by Brian Montieth, Fred Rahmer, Steve Buckwalter, and Danny Dietrich, with Tim Glatfelter winning the B-Main. Fast time in time trials over the 32-car field was set by Mark Smith with a one-lap time of 13.126-seconds (102.849 MPH).

CORY HAAS WINS 410 CAREER FIRST IN LINCOLN SPEEDWAY HANK GENTZLER MEMORIAL
(Click on headline link above for full story and results)
Will Walls wins Thundercar Thriller

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 9/27/09 - Cory Haas had led his fair share of laps over the past season and a half at Lincoln Speedway. But the Dallastown driver could never bring home that elusive career first 410 Sprint car win.

Sunday night, Haas was right on the money as he captured that first career win in the 25-lap Hank Gentzler Memorial on Manufacturer’s Night at the Pigeon Hills oval. The race was rescheduled after being rained out Saturday night.

"This sure makes getting up at 5:30 AM tomorrow morning feel pretty good," said Haas, who held off a final lap challenge from Daryn Pittman to score the win by a mere .0257 seconds. "I saw his nose under me on the white flag lap and there was a lapped car there and I thought he was going to have to make one heck of a move to get between me and the lapped car...it all worked out."

Haas started fourth in the feature and moved into second at the start behind race leader Danny Dietrich, who beat fellow front row starter Cody Darrah into turn one. Darrah nearly spun out and fell back to the 10th position.

Mark Smith’s car slowed on lap three as Dietrich continued to set the pace as Adam Wilt took the runner-up spot from Haas on six laps complete.

Wilt was all over Dietrich for the lead and briefly took the spot with a pass in turn two on lap 10 but Dietrich led at the line only to have Wilt try to steal the lead in turn one and spinning out.

Haas pulled a slider on Dietrich on the restart to grab the lead as Dietrich’s great run came to an end when he stopped to bring out a yellow flag.

Haas assumed command with Daryn Pittman and Darrah following on the restart. Pittman stayed with Haas for a few laps but Haas eventually started to pull away.

With slower cars coming into play over the final few laps, Pittman was able to gain on Haas but fell short at the checkered flag.

"I almost didn’t win it because I got my wing back too far at the end and it started pushing in the corner," he said. "I know Daryn was there and you know what kind of driver he is...he’s one of the best around and I just didn’t want to make any mistakes."

Haas became the 15th different winner this season aboard the Embee & Sons, Inc, York P B Truss, Tailgaters, Michael Barshinger Builder No. 11C.

"The cautions really helped us tonight," Haas said. "We let a couple slip away here over the last year and a half and I didn’t want to let this one get away. I’m very happy to win the Hank’s race, it’s really something special and I appreciate everything Denise does with this race."

Pittman was second over Darrah, Brian Leppo, Lance Dewease, 21st starting Fred Rahmer, Aaron Ott, 2009 track champion Brian Montieth, Jim Siegel and Greg Hodnett.

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 9/26/09 - Rain moved into the Central Pennsylvania area around noon and with the threat of heavy rain forecast into the evening, Lincoln Speedway officials were forced to postpone Saturday evening’s 21st Annual Hank Gentzler Memorial Manufacturers Appreciation Night until tomorrow night, Sunday, September 27th at 6 PM.

DELLINGER CLAIMS FIRST LAWRENCE CHEVROLET SPORTSMAN 100 WIN
(Click on headline link above for the full story and results)
Watson edges Gallagher in thundercar main; Korey Sites takes street stock feature

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 9/19/09 -Those who attended the 35th running of the "Lawrence Chevrolet Sportsman 100" at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night will remember it for a long time to come.

So will Scott Dellinger, who finally found victory lane for the first time this year and claimed the $4,000 top prize in super sportsman racing’s most prestigious event.

Dellinger started ninth and raced wheel-to-wheel with fellow competitors before moving into the top five on lap 18. Dellinger caught Mike Enders for fourth a lap later, and was still running there when third-starting Frankie Herr took the lead from second-starting and race-long leader Rich Eichelberger in turns three and four of lap 24.

Four laps later, Eichelberger clipped a lapped car while still running second and spun in turns three and four, bringing out the caution. He tagged the rear of the field for the restart.

Herr drove away from the field until losing a wheel in turns three and four of lap 34, striking the outside wall and ending his bid to become the first driver to win five "Sportsman 100s".

That handed the lead over to polesitter Leroy Martin, who found himself in front for the first time on the night. Martin paced the field until lap 61, when 21st-starting Carmen Perigo, Jr. completed his run through the field to grab the lead exiting turn four.

Four laps later, disaster struck for Perigo, as he broke a front axle on the front stretch, bringing out the mandatory red flag on lap 66. Perigo was able to make repairs during the 10-minute break, but the lead again belonged to Martin when the race resumed.

Martin led the next 22 laps before Dellinger made the race-winning pass entering turn one of lap 88.

Russ Mitten came from 11th-starting spot to catch Martin for second on lap 94, and Carmen Perigo completed an amazing run by passing Mitten for second on lap 97.

Perigo, who set fast time, bicycled while leading and failed to qualify in his heat, won the consi, and came from the back twice to finish second in the "Sportsman 100" for the fourth time in his career.

Mitten settled for third, with Martin fourth and Rich Eichelberger fifth.

Completing the top ten were Mike Enders, 14th-starting Danny Hager, 16th-starting Rick Barr, 24th-starting Eric Eckert, and 18th-starting Raymond Myers.

Fast time in time trials over the 36-car super sportsman field was set by Perigo, with a one-lap time of 15.698-seconds (85.998 MPH).

Sportsman heats were won by Rich Eichelberger, Gregg Foster, Doug Hendricks, and Frankie Herr, with Perigo winning the consolation.

LINCOLN BATTLES, BUT LOSES THIRD SHOW OF THE YEAR TO THE RAIN
Rain-out gives Hammaker first Lincoln 358 sprint point title;
358 Championship event to be rescheduled; date to be announced

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 9/12/09 - After running in the track three times, Lincoln gave up and threw in the towel Saturday night, postponing its annual 358 Sprint Car Championship event to a date to be determined.

Track master Fred Putney had the track just about ready to go when the first of three rainfalls struck the track shortly before 5:30 p.m. Putney and his crew went back to work, running in the track a second time, and then did it again after a second rainfall arrived at about 6:45 p.m.

Officials were about ready to tell the sprint cars drivers to buckle up for heat in the motors when rain again drenched the track at 8:15, forcing promoters Bob and Don Leiby and Alan Kreitzer to cancel the evening’s racing program.

Forty-seven "358" sprint cars, 32 Central PA Legends cars, and 20 thundercars were in the pits.

Officials had already reduced time trials to a single lap before the program was cancelled.

Though the "358" Championship will be rescheduled at a date to be announced, the rain gave Grantville’s Dale Hammaker his first-ever Lincoln track title by 165 points over Glenndon Forsythe, with defending track champ Jeff Rohrbaugh finishing third in points, 180 behind Hammaker.

With all big shows remaining, promoters were unsure whether the Legends could be rescheduled.

An announcement regarding the date of the 358 championship event will be made later this week.

Next Saturday night, September 12th, Lincoln Speedway will host the 35th running of the prestigious "Lawrence Chevrolet Sportsman 100." Street Stocks and Thundercars will round out the evening’s racing action which will get underway with sportsman time trials at 7 PM. Gates will open at 5 PM, with hot laps getting underway around 6:30 PM.
